Parkside Collaborative
Partners

The Parkside collaborative is a group of partners – Camden County Historical Society, AEDA, HopeWorks, and PBCIP – coming together to transform and revitalize the Parkside
neighborhood of Camden, NJ.

With support from the Regional Foundation, we are working together to create a flourishing neighborhood over the next 5 years – one where a new generation will be employed with quality jobs, families will access new green spaces and healthy food, and in all, a new, stronger future will be built in Parkside.

Parkside's
Roots to Market

Creating income opportunities through horticulture can attract new gardeners, if there is local support committed to eliminating entry barriers to the fresh foods market. In Camden's Parkside neighborhood, residents receive support in beginning gardens with free resources and workshops call "Rootcamp". Participants benefit from receiving free soil testing, an allotment of fresh soil, raised beds (if required), as well as seeds and seedlings demanded by businesses committed to purchasing over the Summer and Fall months.

The seeds and seedlings are distributed to each grower during Rootcamp programs. The majority of the free programming are administered by existing area organizations and partners, eliminating duplicative efforts in Camden.

PBCIP's Block Captain's Network

Blocks captains meet monthly prior to the PBCIP community meeting. Each of the 55 blocks in Parkside has a designated block captain, though some blocks without a captain are served by someone on a neighboring block.

INTERESTED IN BEING A BLOCK CAPTAIN? PBCIP NEEDS YOU!

Block captains are the link between residents and PBCIP, disseminating timely information about meetings, events or issues of concern that may arise. They also:

  • troubleshoot resident problems and work with PBCIP to connect residents to the resources they need

  • serve as the eyes and ears of PBCIP in the community

  • meet everything from immediate and basic needs to social opportunities to leadership development

The Haddon Avenue Business Association was formed in 2014 to promote commerce and community along Haddon Avenue, working in conjunction with PBCIP and the Latin American Economic Development Association (LAEDA)  to improve the economic health and climate of the commercial district in the Parkside-Gateway-Whitman Park neighborhood of Camden. HABA promotes and insures this business corridor is an inclusive destination for visitors, shopping, and employment for the neighborhood, city and surrounding area.
